AMA Engineering re-designed the architectural and structural drawings for this 30 year old building. The challenge was was to keep the existing outside masonry. Some of the original exterior walls are now inside the building, adding to the architectural beauty. The new design added 10,000 square feet of open office space and the cylindrical corner office. This building is LEED certified.
All materials were recycled. The solid wood trusses and brick are 80 years old recovered from a building in Pittsburg, CA. The circular trusses are the originals trusses from the Pittsburg building and the trianglar trusses were re-fabricated from recovered material of the same Pittsburg building. To bring out the warmth and natural feeling of the wood and brick, the solid wood trusses were sanded and left exposed along with the steel connections, giving the affect of high ceilings. Brass was used as finishing.
Originally designed by Doug Allinger, known for his extraordinary masonry structures in Walnut Creek. He is particularly known for his “drunken brick” style or mottled red brick waves and curls along the façade.
